Newspaper and fishing Magazine "excerpts" for Ron Terlop
Plain Dealer by D'Arcy Egan

"Terlop's effort captures Master Angler" Ron Terlop of Garfield Heights earned a Master Angler Award from the Ohio division Of Wildlife, and his four species of trophy fish and angling locations were quite unusual.

Terlop fished the upper Cuyahoga River in the Mantua area, where he landed a 33-inch northern pike and a 21-inch smallmouth bass.He added a 21-inch largemouth bass caught from an Auburn area pond. Capping the Master angler foursome was a 27-1/2" carp taken from the East Branch of the Rocky River along Big Creek Parkway.

"I caught all of them on small jigs and live bait," said Terlop, manager for a local textile company who fishes about 20 days each month. He relies on phases of the moon to determine whether the fish are biting.

"Passionate Pike Man"
"I really enjoyed "Pike Prodigy" in December/January 2005-6 issue. Here in Ohio, our northerns average 26 inches, but an occasional fish pushes the 40-inch mark.

You really have to hunt for these fish, but that's exactly what I and fellow members do almost all year. The only thing that stops us is when cold weather ices the rivers we fish.

Like the European pike hunter,Bertus Rozemeijer, I prefer soft plastics - a chartreuse jig buried in a softbait; a 3-inch chartreuse minnow grub or 6-inch fluke is a winner.

Club Response: When you spend all year on the water exclusively pursuing the biggest fish in a population, you're bound to learn volumes about what makes them tick and the best ways to catch them.

It sounds like you've done both Ron!

For more geat European ways to expand your pike arsenal here, refer back to the sidebar "Rozemeijer's Rules on page 43 of the December-January issue.

Question:  "What are you doing now to prepare for the fall hunting or fishing season?"

Answer:  "I am already getting my rods in order and tying some jigs for steelhead fishing. I'm looking now at scouting some areas. We'll fish from late September all the way through spring."

"Fishing From Shore"
I am a multi-species fisherman, and have had a deep passion for angling since I was three years old. I fish a number of tournament circuits and spend much of my free time on the water.

Whenever I get a chance, I practice fishing from the bank. I find it gives me a different perspective than from a boat, lets me test new ideas, and helps practice my presentations, working around obstacles and triggering strikes. I want to pass that idea along to my fellow members, and suggest they try it.
